quarries- a quarry is a type of open-pit mine in which dimension stone, rock, construction aggregate, riprap, sand, gravel, or slate is excavated from the ground. this industry also involves the cutting and extraction on high-value stone deposits such as marble, granite, quartz, limestone, sandstone, slate & silica. many of these quarry stones are cut into larger slabs and removed from the quarry and later polished and finished with varying degrees of sheen or luster.
